Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

How badly have you missed me since I haven't updated from Monday to Monday plus a Tuesday and almost a Wednesday!!?? Lots. I knew it. (Michelle is not surprised at all that that is how the math side of my brain works to figure out how many days have past.)

I've forgotten most of last week already and my weekend was less than exciting... And this week has been crazy busy with work things. I don't know what to tell you about.. I'm sure I can think of a few things.

The original psychic report out has been found. More things have come true. Marriage age for me is around 25.... phew, as long as it isn't 24 (I'm running out of time on that one). Next time I'm in Pittsburgh, I'm going to another psychic with my mom and sister. I'll be sure to take notes this time.

Last week, my dear friend Felton from work sent me a work message that warmed my heart: "Hi Megan, How in the world are you? How is Plano? My friend Tom is coming down next week, so I thought of you and wondered how you were doing. We miss your smiling face and being able to come by and chat with you. Hope all is well. Your friend in Chattanooga, Felton.". SOO SWEET!!?? RIght!???? So funny though, he didn't email this. He sent it in an instant message, and I responded, almost instantly, but he never responded back. Maybe he thinks IM-ing is like mail? I really don't know. (Background on Felton- at office birthday parties they throw out Bible chapter:verse and he recites the text from memory. Also, his son got married at a potluck wedding that had brownies, not cake, and ecofriendly silverware.) So cute.

My sister got a puppy! Lincoln. He is so cute!!!!!!!!!!! Even though I RIP Murphy, it makes me want a new puppy. Yes, most of you think this would be irresponsible. But, if I started at the beginning with a sweet little baby puppy that loved me and not an abandoned 40lb husky... well.. I think the situation would play out much differently. I can't believe I wasted a perfectly great dog name on a dog I don't even have anymore. Murphy. Gosh! (RIP)

My apartment complex pool is turning into a complete rager. After work even! And then, obviously, on the weekends. I'm too self-conscious to go into the middle of the rager but I'm never home when the rager starts to make it before all the activity. Kim is coming this weekend. Now I don't have to go test out the rager by myself. Before you read this and say "Megan, that is so silly, just go!" how about you move to a new place hours and hours away from your home family friends new puppy nephew and knowing no one and THEN tell me to go do something. You are so inconsiderate if that is what you were thinking.

Do any of you reading this have DVR? Has DVR completely revolutionized the way you watch TV? It has for me. I would always have to catch up and watch missed sodes on the HP- but not anymore!! I just have to remember to record them. Which, mostly I do. Anyway, even though DVR helps me catch all missed shows and lets me fast forward through the worst of the American Idol performances (which is all of them right now) - I still continue to forget that I can fastforward through the commercials. I usually remember... more than halfway through my show, that I've wasted so much time watching commercials I don't need to watch!! (Unles of course it is the Eclipse trailer which I absolutely have to pause and watch and prepare for the June 30th release date.).

Hm, let's see. What else... Nothing. I'm going to bed. Goodnight, followers and nonfollowers. (Oh, I'm going to make the blog private soon, so you might consider following....)

Happy Monday!!

Or something like that.... My parents and grandparents aren't coming this weekend anymore (Poppy has a bum knee, say a prayer for him) so I started off my day by emailing my manager that I don't need to take any vacation on 3/14. 3/14? I emailed back saying apparently I think it's March and by 3/14 I mean 5/14... Uh, Mondays.

Anyway....

My Dad was in town on business so he treated me to a nice dinner at a not so local establishment that was basically Chattanooga in Tennessee (for my TN readers, I was back at Top of the Dock... only with a bigger pseudo dinner area/dancing area). Dinner cost $20. Not exactly the meal I thought I would get... but enjoyable none the less.

So, let's see-- If you've known me for any amount of time, you've probably heard me say "I'm never having children". I'll share two incidents in my life that go for and against this:

For: The trip to the psychic I had a few years ago. Yep. The psychic. I totally want to believe everything she said (because, she told me I was getting married), but I also totally don't want to believe everything she said (four kids- one set of twins). The psychic told me other things, like I would move south (and where did I end up? Chattanooga....) and that I would live by water (after the first apartment situation, I ended up with a new apartment within a day. Once I finally got my furniture in and looked out my bedroom window, what did I have a view of? The Tennessee River.). I want another trip to another psychic to see what matches up and what doesn't. I wish I could locate my original email to the girls detailing the psychic predictions to see what else has proven accurate.

Against: Murphy. Murphy was my dog for a week. He was a handsome husky mix that I met at the animal shelter and pretty much fell in love with... immediately. My mother told me I could get him and so I did. I became a mom to a 40 lb husky. Murphy, as most shelter dogs probably are, was a bit skiddish and afraid of everything. Including steps. And I lived on the third floor. Did I mention he was 40lbs? To say getting up the stairs was an... "event".. is an understatement. Then there was the entire bathroom situation. I had this dog for 2 days before he went to the bathroom. For the 2 days he didn't go to the bathroom, I cried nonstop about my defective dog and I pretty much stopped eating. Thankfully, I was going to Pittsburgh for the weekend and my family was going to help me.

The day I was leaving for PA, I had to go into the office- I figured it was only 4 hours, and Murphy could stay in his cage for a while. False. That dog broke out of his cage and took a giant and super disgusting poop in my loft. The smell hit me as soon as I opened the door. Oh, and the cage was ruined. I start crying and cleaning up dog poop and calling my parents and just about ready to kill myself. I gave Murphy dinner, loaded him into the car and start driving.

I was really nervous for Murphy to do another gross BM in my car so I stopped frequently on the drive, but this dog never went to the bathroom.... 7 hours. He didn't go at the hotel. He didn't go the next morning. He kept eating and drinking. But, he did not go to the bathroom. The remaining 5 hours to Pittsburgh he didn't go to the bathroom. I cried the ENTIRE drive.

My parents greeted me and we put Murphy in the backyard and he peed- I was such a proud mother. I cried again. My family tried to soothe me, but I was generally inconsolable. Murphy still hadn't pooped, and he didn't love me like Moses (family dog) loved me. Tears, tears, tears.

My sister convinced me that Murphy could stay home with the rest of the family and we should go out and enjoy the Saturday night. Ok, I said - I could use a night away from the dog. I shower and start to fix my hair and I hear my sister go "Aww, Murphy! Come here... Aww... OH MY GOD! MURPHY!" Panic.

What did Murphy do, you ask? Well after a minute or two of stunned silence from Allie (which is rare) she said "He ate a sock.". Excuse me? "He had it in his mouth. He swallowed it. It's gone. He ate a sock!".

So, now, my entire family is at the top of the steps with Murphy in the middle just staring at him asking "What do you mean 'He ate a sock'!?!".

More tears.

We call a neighbor who is thankfully a vet tech and she starts giving us instructions that start off with "Get some hydrogen peroxide and a turkey baster....". What? Turkey baster? Not happening.

Hyperventilating. Tears. Shock. Tears.

Me and my dad take Murphy to the Vet ER (which is a surprisingly bumping place on a Saturday evening) and hand Murphy over to the techs. Hours later, our neighbor/vet tech appears with a huge smile on her face.... "Well, we induced vomiting, and.. there were... two socks."

That damn dog ate a sock when he broke out of his cage (thus the no pooping) on top of the sock Allie witnessed. I tried to laugh at this, but I was still a little emotionally distraught. We take Murphy home, $300+ later, and tell everyone "Pick your socks up off the floor!!!!!!".

Sunday night rolls around and I'm slowly calming down and I hear my mother coming up the stairs... "Hi Murphy... Murphy? What do you have? DROP IT! Murphy!!" Yep. He did it again. This time I don't cry. I look at him, look at my parents, and say "Put him down, I can't take it anymore".

Now, don't get all bent out of shape, we didn't put him down (although, at that point, I honestly think I would have)... we went back to the turkey baster/hydrogen peroxide method (NOTE: do not try this at home without explicit instructions from your neighboring vet tech!) It took a few attempts, and my grandma was called up to console me while I sob outside, and finally we get Murphy to vomit. Did he swallow a sock, you ask? No. He swallowed a full butt underpant. Inbelievable.

That night the email went out to every single person I know "Do you want a sweet husky that is the most handsome dog you've ever seen?" and I looked at my parents and said "That's it, you're never getting grandchildren from me."

The Murphy incident was the most high impact of the two, so I've stuck with "no children" for a while now. That is.. until... this morning.

Yesterday was Mother's Day and when I came into the office today I asked a woman in my aisle how her Mother's day was. Usually, I wouldn't do this- I mean, you never know who lost a child or hates their child or whatever. So, unless they've explicitly mentioned their children around me, well, I think it's best not to assume. But, today, I assumed. I only assumed because I know she is married and she has pictures of her family all over the place and framed photos of children.

When I asked her how her Mother's day was she told me about how her husband made her a card from the dog and signed it with a paw print. She also told me how her dog sent her flowers. Then she said she didn't get the gifts from the dog until after she returned from reading to inmates in the local prison. I guess the photos of children either 1) came in the photo when she bought them from Kohl's or 2) are nieces and nephews. Either way...

Never have I ever been more certain that I need to have children. Not immediately- actually, another 10 years would be great... but, I'll need to get them at some point. I can't bare to spend my Mother's Day in prison or get a fake card from my dog (everyone knows dogs can't go into the post office).

Note: We did find Murphy a good home. I cried when I gave him away and told them that he really is a good, sweet dog.

Update: He still eats socks.

Busy week

Ok, so in two months, I've really had a successful transition to Plano.. . at least I think. And, this week was busy with things going on every day!

Tuesday MM flew through Dallas (three sightings in three weeks...!). Me and Sarah and new friend Pete(r) met with them at a great restaurant and slowly enjoyed appeteasers and then dinner. It was a fabulous 3 hour dinner extravaganza. Me and Sarah had champagne which was oh so classy.

Wednesday was Cinco de Mayo- we met with Lizzie and Jessica and new friend Amber. Mambo taxis were consumed... which, have I mentioned what is in a mambo taxi? It's a frozen margarita mixed with sangria and topped off with brandy. Two will easily put you under the table. Lizzie said she was having "just one" because she was "medicated" but the next thing I know she's sipping on her third... good thing I live close by! We walked to my apartment and watched some DVRed American Idol (Aaron is finally gone, thank God!) and Modern Family (funniest show on TV) to cool down from post work happy hour.

Thursday I had a fate- fake date- for drinks with some kid I met a few weeks ago. We met at... my favorite... a sushi bar. I agreed because I do make an attempt to be agreeable/charming when first meeting people. But- sushi? Barf! Get there and he's waiting and comes up and meets me at the door- first thing out of his mouth "I don't remember you being so tall". Idiot. Height complex- great. I mean, really, I'm the one that should have the height complex with him. (He's 6'0 if you're wondering... and didn't laugh as hard as I'd like at 5'12. Actually, he barely laughed and was like "Oh, so we're the same height"- didn't even acknowledge the joke! Maybe I'm so pretty he was just so nervous. Yea, that's it.) Anyway, I had the Zumba class with Sarah at 8 that I was going to.. but chat chat chatting away and it was 7:57 and I stood up Sarah for Zumba! There was no way I would make it in time. When I told boy this he said "I know, you aren't going to make it"- Like it was his plan all along. Rude. Anway, chat chat chatting, we walk around the town center thing and stop in another establishment. I get only water because it is a school night and I have an 8am meeting I know I will be running late to... And next thing we know, 10:30. Awkward parting in the garage and two weird hugs goodbye and he asked to see me again... I dont know. He's moving in two months, so something to pass the time? Oh! And- he hates DC. Not hates DC and prefers DP, he thinks it will give me cancer.

I came home and watched the new episode of The Office- it was laugh out loud funny. Michael as a mistress? Perfect. Do other people laugh out loud when they are alone? I do. A lot.

Today was an early day for me. Stupid east coast. They don't get the time change (they = most if not all of you reading this). I am an hour behind!!!! A 9AM meeting for you is an 8AM meeting for me and with computer start up time and meeting prep time... well I just don't want to come in around 7 or 7:30 to prepare for your meetings and fresent! (Fake present). Oh, and while we are at it- Don't schedule meetings during my lunch! Super RUDE! I love lunch! By lunch I haven't had anything to eat in FOUR HOURS! Gosh. And, also, while I'm sharing- I do schedule 4:00PM CST meetings on purpose if I can't find "any other time".....

Also, today at work, one of my peers called me from my last rotation and asked me a question. I miss knowing the answers!!! But, he's so fabulous and when I'm in CT in June I'm looking forward to catching up over a great cafeteria lunch and chat chat chatting away!

So, plans for tonight? Catching up on all my week's DVRed TV and watching Glee online. Hopefully tomorrow's a great weather day because I plan on enjoying the pool.

Honorable Mention

So, it seems that last weeks blog was a success-- Jarrod even read it twice and laughed harder the second time. I don't know if I can ask for much more!!

Some of you are upset you weren't mentioned- I'm surprised at how many of you there were. I have a feeling that this "direct" call out has some of you going "please don't say my name and make me appear needyyyy". So I won't- but just know that I had fun with a hundred times more humans than I could ever mention in a single blog entry. I mean- how do you put blue/white weekend into words? It's hard... So, even though I promised honorable mentions, you're not getting them. I can't keep living in the past, and I can't keep track of all of them.

Also in the past? Recovering. I was sick all of last week. Finally, on Friday, I could take it no more. I went to the Super Target pharmacy and waited in line to talk to a pharmacist and tell him my symptoms. I really could care less about complaining- I actually quite enjoy it- But, I did feel bad for this pharmacist. Not only was queen complain (me) giving him an earful, there were people there before me and after me! My whine went something like this "Hi- I'm not feeling so well. (sniff) I don't know what medicine to take, and I don't want to take it all and overdose myself. (cough). I had a fever at the beginning of the week- but it broke. Now I'm sneezing all the time! Is it allergies? But, my face hurts. My eyes hurt. My cheeks hurt. And all the sneezing! (sneeze) I've been taking motrin but that's not working. And, this voice, it isn't even mine! What do I doooooooo (cough, sniff, sneeze). But, I also don't know if the headache is because I'm wearing a high pony.... I just need medicine. Real badddd." You can imagine the look he gave me.

The pharmacist directed me to some type of 4 in 1 Tylenol PM and told me that I could "probably" function on it if I took it during the day. This would be a big fat false. I was knocked out within 30 minutes of taking the first dosage (at 5:15 PM). When I woke up at 9:30PM, I took another dosage and slept through the night. Then I woke up and took it again (and again) and slept pretty much until 4PM Saturday. It was glorious. And I finally felt normal.

Saturday I went to a very smokey bar with Sarah and two coupled friends (they're everywhere....!). I did my first karaoke ever. I think the reason I hate karaoke is because I know I can't sing. I know I'm terrible. And, I am pretty sure any time you listen to someone sing karaoke you think "Gosh, they think they can sing!?!". I hate that. I hate doing things I'm not good at. But- I was wearing a super short skirt, so hopefully I wasn't so sore on the eyes as I was on the ears.

(Which, btw, the skirt was only $4.99 from my favorite store: Lerner's. (Also known as NY&C.xoxosilk))

No husbands at karaoke- not even an attractive. I also learned my lesson after stating that my husband requirements were "tall and teeth". The people I was with promptly pointed out a sloppy giant man and asked if he would do.... He would not. Maybe I'll have better luck on Cinco de Mayo....

Sunday there was an Art Festival (not to be confused with THE Arts Fest) at some park called Cottonwood or Cottonball or something. Lots of art. Even MORE dogs. Oh. My. God. I WANT ONE!! The kiss of death was these women selling yorkies out of their purse. (The purse had a piece of paper pinned on that said "Yorkies for Sale"). Three, 7-week old, baby, sweet, want to steal them, yorkie puppies. When I move to my next location and I'm a little more permanent, I'm getting one. But, ohmygosh, these sweet little babies were to die for. So where all the other millions of dogs. I told Kim, taking me to the Art Fest was like taking an alcoholic to a bar-- so much temptation. (RIP Murphy.) (No, he's not really dead, I just RIP him. Although, he should be dead- he's still eating sock. Don't get it? That's an entirely different blog posting I'll need to do....)

I think I'm taking my cowboy boots back. They make my feet look big. Yes, I know I'm a 9.5 (ok, maybe sometimes I'm a 10)- but I don't need to walk around with big giant boat feet. Or, draw attention to my feet (unless they are freshly pedicured and in a great sandal). So- I'm taking them back this week. And probably buying something else I want but don't need. Unless I purchase solid colored shirts- I need them. All I own are patterns. This makes it hard to mix and match outfits.

Today at work I wore a ballerina bun in my hair- not to be confused with a grandma bun (which I wore to the interview for the job I currently hold). Anyway... I was totally digging my ballerina bun not to be confused with a grandma bun, and a grandma that works in the building walks past me and goes "ohhh, I love your hair, dear". God. If a grandma likes it... does that make it less of a ballerina bun and more of a grandma bun? I hope not. I was totally digging the look.

I went to my first ever spin class today after work with Sarah (and her Dad, so cute!). This woman? Holy cow. She made us cycle to Hotel California. Now, I love (love!) the Eagles... but, really, exercise to it? To THAT song? I don't think so. She also told us to imagine a big dog chasing us up a hill and to peddle faster.... what a wacko. (I pictured the yorkies, so of course I wanted to slow down and pet the imaginary dog.)

I'm bracing to feel the burn tomorrow. I also now understand why biker shorts were invented. But, I will probably go back. (YES! Go back!!) Even better though? We're doing a Zumba class on Thursday... my favorite!!!

After the exercise I felt the need to continue to be "healthy" or something like that... I made a great stir fry with zucchini, peppers, onion, peas, carrots and chicken. So domestic!! Sometimes I surprise myself. And!! -- I'm bringing in treats for the office tomorrow- hopefully this makes me their most favorite, instead of just their favorite. (Tree bark and rice krispie treats- yum!)
